Dress to impress with a gown for your body type

There are so many different styles of bridal gown out there it's not hard to feel overwhelmed by all the options when you're searching for your very own perfect dress.

Why not narrow the sheer amount of choices down by checking out dresses to suit your body type? We're all different shapes and sizes, and thankfully there's a style to suit each and every one of us.

Here's a basic guide to the different body shapes and dresses that can help to flatter them.

If you're 'pear shaped'

If your upper body is smaller than your bottom half, for instance with narrower shoulders and wider hips, you might fall into this category. Show off your great shoulders and collarbones with strapless gowns that hug the waist and then gently float down over your hips and legs.

If you're 'apple shaped'

Apple shapes tend to be rounder in the stomach with slimmer legs. Try an empire line dress that skirts over your waist, or an A-line dress with a dropped waist to emphasise the length of your body. You could also opt for a sweetheart neckline with a bow cinching in the waist and a full, puffy skirt to create the illusion of a narrow waist. You could also think about opting for a mid- or cocktail-length gown so you can show off those pins!

If you're petite

If you're a pint-sized bride, consider a svelte sheath dress that can add length to your body and flatter your figure. If you'd like to create a curvier silhouette, opt for a slightly fuller skirt or some delicate embroidery in all the right places. A dress that's very 'princessy' or puffy may overwhelm your petite frame.

If you're an hourglass

Show off your balanced figure with a well-fitted mermaid dress that hugs your curves. Don't be afraid to branch out into other styles, however, as you can pull off almost anything!

If you have a fuller bust

Show off your fuller bust in a fit-and-flare gown that balances the look, nipping in at the waist and flowing out with a fuller skirt. If you'd like more coverage or support, look for a one-shoulder gown or a dress with a lace illusion neckline.

Remember, no matter what your shape, the key is wearing a dress you love and feel comfortable and confident in!
