How to pick your wedding dress colour

Aug 2014 Wedding Dresses

While traditionally brides have worn snow-white dresses on their big day, these days, there are plenty more options out there.

Whether it's creamy white, a dress with a hint of silver or a bright red gown that breaks with convention but reflects your true self, there's a dress colour out there for everybody.

Here are some of the things to consider when thinking about what colour your dream wedding dress will be.

Do you want to go for the classic look?

Each bride has her own unique style and preferences. Some women dream of wearing a traditionally inspired, pure white gown, while others are happy to switch it up.

If you're having a traditional wedding or simply love the look, opt for a plain white dress. You can always update the look with the style and cut itself – or simply embrace all things classical with a princess gown!

Do you love sparkle and shine?

These days, an increasing number of shimmery and sparkly dresses have been hitting the runways in gorgeous shades of champagne and silver. Naeem Khan, for instance, debuted a gorgeous silver number in the Fall 2014 collection, while Monique Lhuillier's collection also featured some shimmering and shining numbers.

There is a whole spectrum of blush, beige, silver and champagne colours out there, so don't be afraid to opt for one of these looks. If you don't want to look ultra-modern, pair one of these dresses with a more traditionally shaped dress.

Do you want to make a splash?

Who says wedding dresses have to be white? If celebrated designer Vera Wang is anything to go by, bright colours are in. She's known for boldly coloured bridal gowns ranging from shades of fuchsia to orange – so if you've got a colourful personality to express, bold might be best.
