No two brides are the same, so when it comes to wedding planning, there's no set method to creating your dream day. Some brides might prefer to keep counsel with a range of loved ones, while independent brides might feel more comfortable getting things done themselves.
The same applies for choosing your wedding dress. Whatever sort of bride you are, founder of Eternal Weddings Maria has a few tips and tricks gathered from years of experience to guide you through this exciting time.
Maria's Golden Rules
#1 Be open minded
"Girls always say, 'do we need to bring anything?' and we always say just bring an open mind," says Maria, who advises brides be open to trying on lots of different styles of wedding gown.
"Nine times out of ten when a bride comes in with a set idea of what they want, they end up ordering something completely different. A wedding dress isn't like anything else you'll ever wear in your life. So that's why we say come with an open mind and allow us to help you and to make some suggestions."
#2 Don't bring an entourage
Maria suggests bringing just one or two people along with you to go wedding dress shopping. "The more people you bring, the more opinions you'll have, and the more confused you'll be," she explains.
"If you're lucky enough to have a good relationship with your mum, mums are always the best to bring, or a sister."
#3 Know your limits
Being flexible is always beneficial, but it's also important to have a solid idea of how much you're willing to spend.
"Sometimes brides don't have a budget, and they'll fall in love with a dress that's $3000," Maria says. "So it's good to work out a rough budget in your mind of what you're willing to spend up to, and that helps us also to help you make the right decision."
